Yeast infection Is an overgrowth of yeast which can affect the skin as a rash, the mouth (thrush), digestive tract, esophagus, vagina and other parts of the body. Yeast infections occur most frequently in moist areas of the body. Candida albicans and other Candida yeasts are the most frequent cause. Diagnosis is common by observation but can be confirmed by culturing the stool, mucosa sample, or a scraping from the affected area. Treatment is with a topical or oral antifungal medication.
